Our Story

Those who knew Walter and Joan Teachworth knew that they were mavericks. Their sense of adventure and love of life took them to Napa Valley in the 1990s. They took a chance when they built their estate on Diamond Mountain, and the risk turned out to be oh-so-worth the reward.

OUR FOUNDERS

Walter Teachworth met Joan on a hot summer day in Texas. Joan was a bright-eyed college student. Walter was already established in his career. They traveled with a group of friends to a nearby lake to cool off. And with the best meet-cute story we’ve ever heard (just ask us when you visit), they were together for the rest of their lives.

They fell in love with Napa and moved their young family here in the early 1990s. Over time, they pieced together an estate capable of world-class winemaking. Their vineyards were planted in 1997, and the first Teachworth vintage was crushed in 2000.

RECENT HISTORY

Today, the property is owned and operated by Chris and Laura Teachworth, Walter and Joan’s children. Winemaker Taylor Berkley Boydstun oversees day-to-day operations and production in an impressive winemaking facility— complete with a subterranean cave, waterfall features, laboratory, and a couple of experiments in the cellar.
