2019 CARNEROS PINOT NOIR
Sourced for Teachworth Napa Valley from the MacKenzie-Mueller Vineyard in Napa’s Los Carneros AVA. The vines are 20+ years old, hailing from cuttings from a foundational vineyard of Robert Mondavi Winery. Sustainably farmed, the source blocks are both field blends, but reflect a preponderance of 667 and 777 clones, with a touch of 828.
In the winery, the Pinot Noir grapes for this 2019 bottling were picked by hand in September and processed to 1-ton open top fermenters. Left with as much whole berry as possible and around 25% whole cluster, the native yeast fermentation progressed smoothly over the following month with regular daily punchdowns and pigeage. Following the completion of primary fermentation, the must was basket pressed and the wine barreled down to French oak barrels, 30% of which were new.
Aged in the Teachworth caves for nearly a year, the wine was bottled in March of 2021 following 18 months in barrel. This wine has outstanding, bright red fruits on the nose, a beautiful perfume, and excellent balance and weight on the palate.
